The car was produced by General Motors from 1967 to 2002. Firebird was introduced to the market the same year with Chevrolet Camaro, a similar model. Engine choices consisted of 5.3 liters V8 with triple carburetor, giving 250 horsepower (180 kW), «HO» model (High Output / Large returns) with four-barrel carburetor giving 285 horsepower (213 kW) or a 6.6 liters (400 HO) engine borrowed from GTO, producing 325 horsepower (242 kilowatts). In 1968, with 400 H.O. engine, consumers were offered «Ram Air» option, which included functional air intakes on the hood, intake system of low resistance, stiffer valve springs and a modified camshaft. «Trans Am» modification became available in 1969.
