Ford GT40 - a sports car, four-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1966 to 1969. It was specially developed to win long distance races against Ferrari (who won at Le Mans six times in a row from 1960 to 1965). This car used GurneyWeslake 4.7l V8 special alloy engine. Car called GT (short for Gran Turismo) and added 40, which denotes its full height of 40 inches (1.02 m together with the windshield) as required by the rules. Early cars were simply called «Ford GT».
