Mercedes-Benz W198 (aka 300SL) - the first West German sports car from Mercedes-Benz in postwar period. The car was produced only in a double coupe with unique "gull wing" door type. In 1957, an open version roadster was introduced. Racing version of Mercedes-Benz 300SL was built in 1952-1953 and became widely known in automotive circles. In 1952, 300SL (W194) performed well in racing competitions such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Eifelrennen at the Nurburgring and the Mexican Carrera Panamericana.
