First generation Mitsubishi Pajero made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1981 and in May 1982, first three-door version with petrol (4G54 - 2.6 liters) and diesel (4D55 - 2.3 liter) engines were released. Long wheelbase, five-door modification was available from February 1983 with a choice of two different engines: a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline 4G63T (in some markets marketed under the name «2.0 Turbo» or «2000 Turbo»), as well as turbocharged diesel engine 4D55T.
