The car was produced by Plymouth, division of Chrysler Corporation, from 1964 to 1974. In 1968, the 273rd engines were replaced by V8 (5,2 l) Chrysler A 350 engine and new Chrysler LA 340 V8 (5,6 l) engine with four-barrel carburetor. Also in 1968, Chrysler issued approximately 50 fastback Barracudas equipped with Chrysler RB 426 V8 Hemi engine (7,0 l). In 1969, the 383rd engine was upgraded to 330 hp (250 kW).
