BMW introduced a new 3-door compact version of the 3 Series model in 2001. Designed to challenge the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sport Coupe and Audi A3 on the small-hatch sector, this car featured the same suspension, engines and transmissions as the E46 saloon model and came with a choice of four variants. Its top-of-the-range 325Ti (190 hp 2.5l engine) was mated to a SSG clutchless manual transmission.
